Maca, My New Favourite Superfood!

A few years ago now, I had read so much about the benefits of Maca and decided that this was definitely the Superfood I needed.  So Ross and I both launched into using Maca as capsules and eventually in our smoothies and other recipes.  I noticed that now, with the Maca in there, my stomach did not seem to be handling the smoothies like it used to be and that the capsules did not seem to agree with me.  It was by a process of elimination that I got it down to the maca – much to my disappointment.


Uh oh...Not So Fast

So I decided that Maca was one of those amazing foods that was just was not meant to be for me...and then I discovered gelatinized maca and the story changed.  You see, I am an ‘O’ blood type and we just do not do well on the carbohydrates that blood types like ‘A’ seem to thrive on.  When I read about Gelatinized Maca and how the starch component was removed I decided that this could be a definite goer for me.


The result was that I can now use Maca without having the digestive upsets that I experience with standard Maca that contains starch.  The other important factor which I learnt in my use of maca over a period of time is that less is more.  Especially with the Maca that we carry from Navitas Naturals which is 100% pure and raw so very powerful.  In the case of the Gelatinized Maca, this is even more concentrated.  If I got carried away and used too much Maca I could start to create or increase the very symptoms that it was supposed to be helping or eliminating and I would lose the benefits.


I have been waiting for a long time now to find a free moment to write this article about my experience with Maca and Gelatinized Maca as I felt that it would be a huge help to people like myself who stood to gain a lot from this incredible healing adaptogen but had struggled with the standard Maca due to the starch component.
